Bernadette Bowlen-Flynn, of Pine Run Estate in Ocala, FL, currently visiting Red Hook, NY, passed away at the Northern Dutchess Hospital on April 10, 2012 at the age of 87.
She was born in Bronx, NY on February 16, 1925 to the late Ethel (McIntrye) and William Odendahl. Bernadette was predeceased by her husbands: John Bowlen and George (Bud) Flynn.
Bernadette worked for many years at the Prudential Insurance Co. in Massachusetts, Arizona and California.
An active member of the Third Order of St. Francis in California and Florida, Bernadette was also an active parishioner at the Queen of Peace Parish in Ocala, FL and St. Christopher’s Parish in Red Hook, NY.
A dedicated and enthusiastic knitter, Bernadette made numerous blankets, coveralls, quits, hats, etc, that she gave as gifts and donated to worthy organizations.
Bernadette is survived by her sisters: Eileen Smith of Bayville, NJ and Ethel Kleinhans of Farmingdale, NY her brothers: William (Joyce) Odendahl of Ocala, FL, John F. Odendahl of Red Hook, Thomas H. (Madelyn) Odendahl of St. Augustine, FL, and numerous nieces & nephews.
She was predeceased by her brothers-in-law: Bernard (Bob) Smith and Robert (Bob) Kleinhans, and her sister-in-law: Marylou Odendahl.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, April 17, 2012 at St. Christopher’s Church, Red Hook, NY. The Rev. Patrick Buckley will officiate. Inurnment will be at Sacred Heart Cemetery, Barrytown, NY. There will be no calling hours.
Memorial donations may be made in Bernadette’s memory to the Secular Franciscan Order, Queen of Peace Fraternity, 6455 SW Highway 200, Ocala, FL 34476-5588.
