Mary Frances Varbero, 80, a longtime Rhinebeck resident and a former Port Chester resident, passed away at her home in Rhinebeck on April 1, 2012.
She was born on February 3, 1932 in Rye, NY; she is the daughter of the late Brendan C. and Katherine (Taylor) Holden. She married George John Varbero on November 17, 1956 in Rye, and he predeceased her on June 24, 1987.
Prior to moving to Rhinebeck, Mary worked as a bank teller at Key Bank in Rye and Newburgh, and she also worked for many years as a bookkeeper with Hill Supermarket in Port Chester.
She was a communicant of Good Shepherd Church in Rhinebeck, a former member of St. Christopher’s Church in Red Hook, and a member of the Red Hook Senior Citizens.
Mary is survived by two daughters: Mary Ann Fleischer of Rhinebeck, Kathleen (Angelo) Sposta of Port Chester, and three sons: George J. (Paula) Varbero, Jr of Port Chester, Steven Robert (Linda) Varbero of Brewster, and Thomas M. (LuAnn) Varbero of Carmel, and five brothers; Brendan, Joseph, Anthony, Patrick, and Brian Holden. She is also survived by nine grandchildren, one great grandchild, many nieces and nephews, and numerous friends.
In addition to her husband, she is predeceased by a brother; William Holden.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, April 3, 2012 at Church of the Good Shepherd, Rhinebeck, NY.
On Wednesday, April 4th, 2012 their will be visitation from 10 am to 11 am with a prayer service to be held at 11 am at the Gunipero-Farenga Funeral Home, 353 Westchester Ave., Port Chester, NY. Interment in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Ryebrook, NY will follow on Wednesday.
Memorial donations may be made in Mary’s memory to the Hospice Foundation, Inc., 374 Violet Ave., Poughkeepsie, NY 12601.
