Shirley A. Meyer, 85, of Red Hook, NY, died Saturday, March 24, 2012 at the Northern Dutchess Hospital in Rhinebeck, NY.
Born November 2, 1926, in Pleasant Plains, NY, she was the daughter of the late Stanley Briggs and Augusta (Hall) Briggs. She graduated from Poughkeepsie High School, and, before she was married, she worked for the Smith Brothers Cough Drop Company.
On January 14, 1950, at St. Peter’s Church in Poughkeepsie, she married John W. Meyer. They moved from Poughkeepsie to Red Hook in 1958. She later worked for 14 years as a Nurse’s Aid at Ferncliff Nursing Home in Rhinebeck. Her husband predeceased her on January 15, 2004.
Shirley especially loved her family and her home, including her flowers, her garden, and all of her cats. Her other loves where crocheting, cooking, reading biographies and watching Turner Classic Movies.
She is survived by her son: John W. Meyer, Jr. and her daughter and son-in-law: Susan E. & Timothy Miller of Red Hook, her three grandchildren: Jennifer Lindig of Claverack, Jessica Birnbaum of Rhinebeck, and Kyle Miller of Red Hook, as well as four great grandchildren: Tanner Lindig, Faith Lindig, Ava Birnbaum, and Cara Birnbaum.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 PM on Wednesday, Mar. 28th, at Burnett & White Funeral Home, 7461 S. Broadway, Red Hook. The Rev. Le Roy T. Ness will officiate. Burial will be at St. Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery, Red Hook.
Friends may call at the funeral home prior to the service on Wednesday from 10am – 12pm.
