The Red Hook Town Board voted unanimously on March 13 to release $10,750 from the Park Land Funds, at the request of Recreation Commission Chair Doug Strawinski. The funding will be used to repair ballfields damaged by Hurricane Irene last summer.
The repair work had been pushed back until now because there had been some hope of finding alternate funding sources. However, with baseball and softball seasons approaching, immediate repairs are needed to make the fields safe and playable.
The bulk of the funding will go to ordering more “infield mix,” a soil type used for baseball infields that had been all but washed away by the storm. Some funding will also go to fixing erosion damage and improving drainage.
