Katherine S. Rifenburgh, 87, a lifelong Red Hook resident, passed away on Saturday, February 4th, 2012 at the Northern Dutchess Hospital in Rhinebeck.
Along with raising her family in Red Hook, Katherine also worked as the Cold Storage in Red Hook and she, along with her parents, ran Fragomen’s Department Store in Red Hook.
Born on April 23rd, 1924, in Red Hook, NY, she was the daughter of the late Paul and Ethel (Teator) Fragomen.
Katherine married Vernon C. Rifenburgh and he predeceased her on July 27, 1982.
She is survived by a daughter: Karen Scism and her husband ” Jake” of Red Hook, a son; Wayne A. Rifenburgh of Red Hook, and five grandchildren; Melissa Scism, Tina Scism, Vernon Rifenburgh, Jr, Claude Rifenburgh, and Lisa Rifenburgh.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by a son; Vernon P. Rifenburgh, Sr
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 PM on Wednesday, February 8th, 2012 at Burnett & White Funeral Homes, Red Hook. The Reverend Fred C. Cartier will officiate. Burial will be at St. Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery, Red Hook.
Friends may call at the Burnett & White Funeral Home on Tuesday from 6 to 8 pm.
