A happy milestone for Estelle Butler

Long-time Red Hook resident and new centenarian Estelle Butler is surrounded by friends at her surprise 100th birthday bash thrown by the Red Hook Seniors Sept. 16 at the Red Hook Firehouse. Estelle, born on Sept. 11, 1914, was feted with lunch and roses and received proclamations and warm words from County Executive Marc Molinaro, Village Mayor Ed Blundell and Town Councilwoman Brenda Cagle. Because of the solemn remembrance of Sept. 11, Molinaro’s county proclamation declared September 12 Estelle Butler Day. “You personify the special character and quality of Red Hook,” Molinaro said. Estelle’s daughter, Eloise Crabtree, and son, Lee Butler, described their mother’s love of world travel, cooking and polka dancing. The honoree was truly touched by the outpouring of love from the 70 people at the party. “I am so spellbound and shocked and surprised, that I’m in tears. I thank you all. This is just beautiful,” Estelle said.
