Hyde Park’s Dutchess Debs win national title

VICTORY SMILES: The Dutchess Debs 18u girls fastpitch softball team based in Hyde Park won the Triple Crown Northeast Nationals played at Randall’s Island in New York City July 14 through 20. Alyssa Pfitscher, who just finished her sophomore season at FDR High School, was given the ball in the final game. Pfitscher had already pitched 5 of the Debs’ previous games in this tournament — and given up only 2 runs — which led them to the championship game, where they won 4-3 over the Diamond Sports EDGE from Conn. With this win, the Debs have won three national titles in the last three years. Last year, they won the PONY National Championship in Sterling, Va., and in 2012, they won the USSSA National ESPN World Series, played in Orlando FL. The winning team: Top Row, l. to r.: Marlena Marzigliano, Alex Wilklow, Maggie Paras, Alyssa Pfitscher, Savannah Hiller, Jules Holbert and Briana Matazinsky. Bottom Row: Amanda Pfitscher, Katie Moos, Andrea Schoonmaker and Jerry Pfitscher
