Regarding the new Dutchess County energy tax, I am now paying this tax on heating fuel I prepaid for months ago to cover the entire season. This was a completed transaction: the money was paid in full last summer for a certain amount of fuel. What possible logic can exist to tax a sale that was finished months ago? It’s arrogant and outrageous, and my future votes will reflect my displeasure.
Editor’s note: According to County Legislator Gregg Pulver (Milan/North East/Pine Plains/Stanford), heating sources purchased in full before the tax exemption was repealed are only exempted from the sales tax if full delivery was taken at the time of purchase. Prepaid fuel deliveries after the tax was re-established are now subject to the sales tax.
