Hyde Park school bus driver victim of Violet Ave. crash

A school bus driver for the Hyde Park Central School District was identified as the motorcyclist who died after a collision with a car on Violet Avenue Sept. 20.

Anthony J. D’Ambrosio, 68, of Staatsburg, was transported to St. Francis Hospital in Poughkeepsie after the accident, where he succumbed to his injuries, according to a Hyde Park police update.

D’Ambrosio was traveling north on a 2006 Harley Davidson motorcycle when Shieree B. Dabbs, 23, of Beacon, driving a 2006 Nissan Sentra traveling south, turned into his path just south of Brower Boulevard, the police report said.

Dabbs and a female passenger were also transported to St. Francis with minor injuries. The Hyde Park Police and the State Police Accident Reconstruction team are still conducting an ongoing investigation, the police report said.

According to his obituary, D’Ambrosio was a long-time art teacher for the Highland Central School District, before retiring in 2000. He was also a member of the Stone Church Fishing Club, Ti Yogi Bowmen, and the Crum Elbow Sportsmen’s Association, all in Hyde Park. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.

He is survived by his wife, Ruth A. Borgos D’Ambrosio, of Staatsburg, along with a daughter, four stepchildren and seven grandchildren.
