Kristen Cables, who has been acting as temporary assessor for Hyde Park since last year, has been appointed to the position full-time Assessor effective Oct. 1. Her appointment was one of two positions filled by the Town Board at its Sept. 9 meeting. Police officer Daniel Montalto was promoted to Sergeant on a temporary basis to fill a current vacancy in the police department.
Cables, who is still working to complete the required courses toward permanent certification, was appointed to a six-year term, which expires in Sept. 2019. She has completed over two-thirds of the necessary course work, meeting the Real Property Tax Law obligations for appointment, but must complete all required course work within three years of the start of her term of office. Before being appointed temporary assessor in March 2012, she was an assistant assessor n Rhinebeck for three years and an assessor’s aide for five years in Hyde Park.
Montalto’s appointment fills a temporary vacancy in the Hyde Park Police Department. Recommended by Chief Eric Paolilli, he will serve in the sergeant’s capacity for six months, which was effective from Aug. 21, pending final approval from the Dutchess County Human Resources department.
