Rhinebeck boys’ soccer defeats Red Hook to win Andy Bennett tournament

The Rhinebeck boys’ soccer team defeated Red Hook, 3-0, Sept.7 in the championship game of the annual Andy Bennett Sports Tournament held at Rhinebeck High School.

It was the fifth straight tournament victory for the Hawks, who improved to 2-0 on the young season with the victory.

Rhinebeck was aggressive from the opening start of the game, attacking the Red Hook defense with an array of shots early on. The Hawks also played swarming defense on the Raiders. For the game, the Hawks outshot the Raiders 13-4.

The Hawks struck first early in the first half, with senior Seth McClenahan connecting off an assist from Andy Rosenzweig. Despite the strong offense from Rhinebeck, Red Hook only found itself down 1-0 going into the break.

Rhinebeck put the game out of reach in the second half in the span of nearly two minutes. First, the McClenahan and Rosenzweig connection struck again, this time with the former setting the latter up with a beautiful header. Shortly after that, Ian Katomski also put one in net on a header, with the pass coming from Nick Hoynes.

Rhinebeck will return to the pitch on Tuesday, when it hosts Dover.
