Cranna outlines Tivoli’s issues in inaugural address

Tivoli Mayor Bryan Cranna took his second Oath of Office from Judge Richard Koweek on April 11.

The event, which was held at the Kaatsbaan International Dance Center in Tivoli, also included the swearing in of trustees Robin Bruno and Susan Ezrati. All three ran unopposed for their seats.

In his inaugural address, entitled “Onward,” Cranna addressed the issues he said were most pertinent to the village’s improvement.

He noted the village’s fiscal situation, saying that the board is currently working on a 2013-2014 budget that will focus on seeking alternate funding sources; in the past two years, Tivoli has received nearly $150,000 in grant funding. Cranna said he plans to put resources into major repairs, including at the water tower and the elevator at the village hall.

Cranna also announced that he has formed a water task force to address issues of water safety in the town, and he promised to fix water drainage issues at Tivoli Acres.

Cranna stated the importance of fostering a positive relationship with nearby Bard College. He also spoke of complaints regarding absentee landlords. “We will change our approach to zoning enforcement to be proactive, rather than reactionary,” he said.

Additionally, Cranna announced the creation of the Tivoli Business and Art Alliance to encourage town commerce. “Tivoli is once again standing as a community on the move with proven results,” Cranna said.

Finally, Cranna gave awards in recognition of outstanding village residents.

Grace Weisbecker received the Victory Award, Barbara Relinsky received the Angela Stepheno Award for Decency, Ginny LaBarbara received the James Star Clark Citizen Award, and the Tivoli American Legion and Masonic Hall received the Alan T. Covert Award.
