The Rhinebeck town planning board on April 1 approved Anne Haywood’s application for a demolition permit to level a decaying home on her property at 72 Grinnel Street in Rhinecliff. The building, a small home with an attached garage, is in an advanced state of disrepair, resulting from years of abandonment. Grinnel Street is part of the historic district in Rhinecliff and the home is listed on the New York State Register of Historic Places. Both the applicant and the planners said it would not be financially viable to restore the home or is it worth the restoration as it was most likely constructed in the 1960’s. The planning board said the home was included in the historic registry because of its proximity to more historically relevant homes in the neighborhood and that its removal would improve the neighborhood.
