The Bard College women basketball team’s season-opening five-game winning streak ended on Dec. 4, when a 20-6 run in the second half led Albany College of Pharmacy players to a 65-49 victory.
But Bard freshman Tytravia Riley (Miami, Fla.) still shattered the Bard record for rebounds in the nonleague game. She had 30; she also had 26 points, a block and two steals.
Albany Pharmacy (6-1) led 38-35 with 11:46 left in the game, then went on a run as the lead ballooned to 17 at one point. Alexa Schooley (Auburn, N.Y.) led the winners with 14 points and eight rebounds.
The Raptors next played on Dec. 7 in another non-league game against Sage in Troy, where Bard lost in a tight game, 47-41.
Bard led 35-32 with 8:15 left, but Sage (4-5) rallied and took a five-point lead as they held the Raptors scoreless over the next six minutes. In the final minute, a layup by Riley brought Bard to within 42-41, but Sage made its foul shots down the stretch and won its fourth straight game.
Riley finished with 17 points, 18 rebounds, three steals and a blocked shot. Liz Freud (Dover, Del.) and Victoria Fleisher (Brooklyn, N.Y.) added nine points apiece, and Imani Jones (Brooklyn, N.Y.) grabbed 11 rebounds.
The Raptors were back on the court Dec. 9 in a non-league game at Pine Manor College, and finally managed to snap their losing streak. Freshmen Bianka Bell (Stamford, Conn.) and Riley led a second-half surge that carried the Bard team to a 74-64 victory. over Pine Manor College.
Bard trailed 34-32 at the break, but an 18-6 run over the first five minutes of the second half grabbed a lead the Raptors would not relinquish.
The gap was as big as 15 points before the midway point of the second half, and as small as six with three minutes left, but Bard prevailed.
Bell had 11 of her 19 team-high points in the second half, and Riley had 12 of her 14 points after the break. She also grabbed 20 rebounds. Freud contributed 13 points and 11 rebounds, and Jones added 14 points.
