Claire S. Longden died Friday, October 19th, 2012 after living with cancer for 32 years.
She is survived by her sister; Josephine and a brother; Christopher and their families in England. Along with many loving and wonderful friends in Rhinebeck.
Born on June 2nd, 1938 in Sheffield, England. Claire came to the United States in 1964 after working for two years with the United Nations (World Health Organization) in Geneva, Switzerland. She became a US citizen in 1985.
For many years, Claire was an independent Certified Financial Planner and owner of Claire Longden Associates, with offices in Rhinebeck and New York City. Claire became a Registered Representative of the NYSE & NASD in 1967 and in 1979 she received Certified Financial Planner designation. She was a Registered Investment Advisor and Principal, NYSE and NASD. Claire’s long and distinguished career was highlighted in 1987 when she was named one of Money Magazines top nationwide planners of the year. In 1984 she was named Northeast region “CFP of the Year” by the Institute of Certified Financial Planners and in 1983 she was admitted to the Registry of Financial Planning Practitioners with the International Association for Financial Planning.
She had spoken at national and local conferences of the ICFP and the IAFP, College Board Conferences, The Money Show, and various civic groups. Claire has also appeared on New York City’s – Channel 2 News, the “Today Show”; CNN/FNN; PBS “Moneymakers”; and the “Nightly Business Report”.
Throughout her career she was frequently quoted in the New York Times; Money Magazine; USA Today; Inc Magazine; Christian Science Monitor; and various others.
Claire had many local and national affiliations. They included being a past President of the Board of Directors of Northern Dutchess Hospital; former member and past President of the Rhinebeck Rotary Club; past National Board member, Northeast Regional Director and member of the Institute of Certified Financial Planners; past Director, Vice President and member of the International Association for Financial Planning; past President and member of the Women’s Bond Club of New York; and longtime friend and board member of Wilderstein Preservation.
As per Claire’s wishes, her funeral service and interment will be private.
