John A. Alessi, 75, of Red Hook, passed away on Wednesday, August 22, 2012 at his home with his family by his side.
Born on December 3, 1936, in Manhattan, NY, he was the son of the late John J. and Lillian Frances (Zizza) Alessi.
John married Grace Gallagher on March 5, 1955 in Queens, NY and she survives at home in Red Hook.
For over 21 years and until his retirement, John worked as a corrections officer for the City of New York at Rikers Island.
Following his retirement and relocation to Red Hook, John volunteered at Northern Dutchess Hospital in Rhinebeck and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Rhinebeck.
John’s greatest love was God, Country, and family. However since his retirement he added another love- Red Hook Raiders sports.
In addition to his loving wife of 57 years he is survived by his two daughters; Donna (John) Radman of Red Hook, NY, and Theresa (Tom) Lynch of Queens, NY, three sons; Michael (Robin) Alessi of Livingston, NY, Vincent (Helen) Alessi of Long Beach, NY, and John (Melissa) Alessi of Red Hook, NY, ten grandchildren; Vanessa Radman, Matthew Radman, Elizabeth Radman, Hannah Lynch, Anthony Alessi, Christopher Alessi, Andrea Alessi, Vincent Alessi, John Alessi, and Joseph Alessi, and a great grandson; Anthony Michael Alessi.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, August 25th, 2012 at Burnett & White Funeral Homes, Red Hook, NY. The Rev. Thaddeus Dragula will officiate. Burial will be at St. Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery, Red Hook.
Friends may call at the Burnett & White Funeral Homes on Friday, August 24th, 2012 from 2 – 4 & 7 – 9 PM.
Memorial donations may be made in John’s memory to the Hospice Foundation, Inc., 374 Violet Ave., Poughkeepsie, NY 12601.
