Vera Tampone, 81, a longtime Red Hook resident, passed away on Tuesday, August 14, 2012 at the Hudson Valley Hospital in Cortland Manor, NY.
For many years Vera worked as a Clinical Director’s secretary at the Astor Home for Children in Rhinebeck.
Vera was a communicant of St. Christopher’s Church in Red Hook and a member of The Ladies of Charity.
Born on January 27th, 1931, in Brooklyn, NY, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Agata Valente.
Vera married Vincent D. Tampone on May 25, 1952 in Brooklyn, NY and he predeceased her on January 29, 1997.
She is survived by her loving son; Dominic Tampone of Red Hook and his companion Deborah Tuttle, several nieces and nephews, including; Frances and Anthony Giunta, Evelyn and Frank Rios, Joanne and George Deppner, Celeste and Joseph McConnell, Anthony “Sonny Boy” and Kitty Palermo and Jonathan Steele. She is also survived by several great nieces and nephews, including; Kirsten, David, Joseph, Amy, Harrison, Brittany, Jennifer, and Christina.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by two sisters; Antoinette Palermo, Christine Panzarino, a brother; Michael Valente, and a niece; Celeste McConnell.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11:00 AM on Saturday, August 18th, 2012 at St. Christopher’s Church, Red Hook. Father Patrick Buckley will officiate. Cremation will be at Wiltwyck Crematory, Kingston.
Friends may call at the Burnett & White Funeral Homes on Friday, August 17th, 2012 from 5 to 8 pm.
