Richard J. “Dick” Prentice, Sr., 72, of Rhinebeck, NY, died Sunday, July 29, 2012 at the Northern Dutchess Hospital in Rhinebeck, NY.
Born in Niagara Falls, NY, he was the son of the late James A. & Evelyn Prentice. He graduated from the University of Niagara, and from Simmons School of Mortuary Science in Syracuse, NY. For many years before moving to Rhinebeck, he worked as a licensed Funeral Director in White Plains, NY.
He was predeceased by his wife, Shirley Anne (Diamond) Prentice, on May 12, 2001.
Dick was a well known, long time volunteer at Northern Dutchess Hospital. As a teenager he belonged to the Masonic youth organization, the Order of the Demolay, and then became a member of Robert Livingston Lodge #90, F&AM, in New York City. .
He loved the sea, ships, and collecting lighthouses. Together with his late wife, he often vacationed on Cape Cod where he could enjoy all of these things.
His two sons and their families survive him: Richard J. & Catherine Prentice, Jr. of Pine Plains, and Russell J. & Tricia Prentice of Highland Mills, NY, as well as four grandchildren: David, Benjamin, Trevor, and Alyssa Prentice.
Funeral services will be held at 7:00 PM on Thursday, Aug. 2nd, at Burnett & White Funeral Home, 91 E. Market St, Rhinebeck. Friends may call at funeral home on Thursday from 2-4 & 6-8PM.
