Janet W. Jensen, a longtime resident of the Town of Beekman passed away peacefully at the home of her daughter Christine Killmer in Poughkeepsie on July 1, 2012.
Born in Scotland on December 26, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Alexander and Jean Miller. She grew up in Brooklyn, NY, and it was there she met her husband Herbert Jensen. They married on August 10, 1946. Her husband predeceased her on January 14, 1996.
Before moving to Dutchess County, she was a Switchboard Operator for NY Telephone Co. in NY City. After moving here she was the cashier in the Beekman Elementary School cafeteria in the Town of Beekman for many years.
Janet is survived by her son: Bruce (Stephanie) Jensen of Colorado, her daughters; Janice (Siegfried) Schrandt of Poughquag and, Christine (Gary) Killmer of Poughkeepsie. She will be fondly remembered by her nine grandchildren: Andrew Schrandt, Christa Steene, Gary Killmer, Laura Killmer, Pauline Jaccino, Allie Haight, Amenda Egger, Stewart Jensen and Melanie Jensen. She was the proud Great Grandma to fifteen who called her G.G.
To my Children and Grandchildren:
May there always be work for your hands to do,
May your purse always hold a coin or two.
May the sun always shine warm on your windowpane,
May a rainbow be certain to follow each rain.
May the hand of a friend always be near you,
And may God fill your heart with gladness
to cheer you.
There will be no calling hours, and, to honor her request, cremation has taken place.
