Tousey Winery recently unveiled its 2011 Estate-Bottled Riesling, the only Hudson Valley Riesling on the market this year. Described as “sandalwood, apricot and peach on the palate, this estate-bottled Riesling is full of richness and a refreshing acidity to deliver a lasting finish,” the winery said.

“2011 will be remembered for terrific amounts of rain during harvest brought on by Hurricane Irene and Tropical Storm Lee,” said co-owner and winemaker Ben Peacock. “The rain changed the style of the wine for good. Some would say, one of the few positives arising out of 2011.”

Tousey’s new Riesling is special to the area, because most New York State Rieslings are cultivated from grapes grown in the Finger Lakes region, not in the Hudson Valley. As last year’s extreme weather conditions ensured lower yields (a whole block of Riesling was wiped out by the storms), there are only a limited number of bottles being produced. The wine will officially be launched on Saturday, June 16 at the Tousey Tasting Room, 1774 Route 9, Germantown.
