Elisha “Dook” Garcia, Sr. 74, of Barrytown, NY, died Saturday, May 26, 2012 at the Benedictine Hospital in Kingston, NY.
Well known as the owner of Garcia & Son Tig Welding in Barrytown, a business he operated with his son for many years, Dook also had a 34 year career with IBM in Kingston: first in the maintenance department, and then as a welder.
Born June 23, 1937, in Rhinebeck, he was the son of the late Alexander Garcia and Hannah (Rion) Garcia. He attended Red Hook schools, and, on April 1, 1956 in Red Hook, he married Jane Godfrey. She survives him at home.
Dook loved to hunt, to fish and to garden, and he was a member of the Red Hook Boat Club for 54 years.
In addition to his wife Jane, he is survived by his four children: Elisha “Dook” Garcia, Jr. and his wife JoAnn of Red Hook, Tammy Garcia of Red Hook, Sheila Garcia of Milan, NY, and Pamela Smith and her husband Robert of North Carolina, a sister Jane Hutter of Sand Point, Idaho, 13 grandchildren, and 10 great grandchildren.
A sister, Joan VanEtten, predeceased him.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, May 30th, at Burnett & White Funeral Home, 7461 S. Broadway, Red Hook. The Reverend Fred C. Cartier will officiate. Burial will be at St. Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery, Red Hook.
