Murray’s Café denied extended evening hours

The Tivoli Planning Board denied a request by Jake Stortini and Jesse Feldmus, operators of Murray’s Café, to extend their business hours until 11pm.

Appearing at the April 16 meeting, the two said they wanted to give customers an opportunity to eat dessert or talk leisurely and they hoped that the later hours would attract after-concert crowds from Bard College.

However, Chairman Harry Colgan said that the café’s hours should coincide with the village noise ordinance, which goes into effect at 10pm. This was especially true, he said, because Murray’s is planning on hosting outdoor dining and music.

The planning board voted unanimously to restrict the cafe’s hours to closing at 10pm. There will be a public hearing on May 21 to discuss other aspects of the plans, including lighting arrangements for the outdoor area.
